etco* Apprentices win at WEACT Excellence Awards

Andrew Healey WEACT Apprentice of the Year 2010

The local WEACT (Waikato Electrical Apprenticeship Charitable Trust) Awards were held on Tuesday 9th November 2010 in the Genesis Lounge at Waikato Stadium.  This event recognizes the excellence of Waikato apprentice electricians at all levels in study and in the workplace for the year.

The evening started with drinks and nibbles while mixing with various people including the 14 finalists, electrical contractors, training providers and guests from the ETITO, EWRB, and local city council.  This followed with an interesting update on the construction progress of the Te Uku Wind Farm Project by guest speaker Robert Batters, the project manager from Meridian Energy.

The awards started by presenting Commendation Awards which included the following etco* apprentices:

  • Taylor Duane
  • Joseph Edlin
  • Nigel Goodwin
  • Nick Peters
  • Lance Wait

Next were top achievers in off-job training presented by Eddie Eeles from the EWRB with etco* apprentice Mark Gibbison taking out the level 2 award and etco* trained apprentice Russell White winning the Level 4 award.

The last two awards are most significant with etco* apprentices taking out the top spots this year!

Duane Woods from Concord Technologies presented Scott Ardern with the WEACT Scholarship Award.

Neil Bridgland from Smiths Elements & Controls presented Andrew Healey the prestigious award of WEACT Apprentice of the Year 2010.  Andrew has come a long way in his training and it is good he is recognised for it.

This is a great effort by these guys and a great evening for etco*.  Out of the 14 top Waikato apprentice finalists, etco* featured in 9 of these placings!

A special thanks to Eddie Roux, Tanya Nunn, Rex Lodge, Johnny Scanlon, Craig Laidlaw, and everyone else who have contributed to the success of these guys.  Well done!
