etco* Apprentices excel at ECANZ Challenge

Paul Cook accepts his award from Lester Ballantine

The etco* Apprentices did us proud again at the ECANZ Challenge Finals that took place from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th July 2011. The Challenge Finals are the culmination of hard work put in by judges, local branches, sponsors and ECANZ over the past few months in finding outstanding apprentices from the nationwide preliminary rounds.

The Industrial category of the Challenge required the apprentices to design and build the PLC system for a simulation of a second-hand blast freezing tunnel. They were also given the opportunity to show their innovative abilities by planning and implementing a retrofit requiring the replacement of old technology equipment with new. The winner for this category was etco* apprentice Paul Cook with fellow etco* apprentice Kent Hendy coming a close second.

Congratulations to all who have had a hand in the achievement of Paul and Kent, not forgetting Nick Hawes who was also an etco* apprentice finalist.

At the Awards ceremony held in Wellington on Friday 29th July it was also thrilling  to hear etco* being announced as the Off-Job Training Provider of all 12 finalists. What a great way to mark the 10th Challenge competition.
