Cody John is the etco* Apprentice of the Year for 2010. He received his accolade at the awards night held at the Martynsfield training facility in Ramarama on 23 February 2011.

Nine excellent Apprentices were nominated for the prestigious award by their respective Apprenticeship Coordinators. Nominations were considered based on Off–Job performance including marks gained in assignments and assessments, and On-Job performance taken from Host Company Performance Reviews plus results of EWRB Theory and Regulations examinations.

The nominated Apprentices (in alphabetical order):
 * Scott Ardern, (Finalist) Hamilton
 * Daniel Berry Auckland
 * Paul Cook, (Finalist) Wanganui
 * Luke Gorlicki Hamilton
 * Andrew Healey Hamilton
 * Cody John, (Winner) Auckland
 * Philip Norman Invercargill
 * Sam Taylor Wellington
 * Max Williams Wellington

The nine were reduced to three finalists by the company’s Senior Leadership Team and Cody selected as the ultimate award winner.

“The final selection process was difficult again this year", says Apprenticeship Manager John Riley. “It was Cody’s consistently high results throughout the duration of his apprenticeship that earned him the top spot in the end.”

“Cody is an excellent example of an etco* Apprentice,” says Apprenticeship Coordinator Steve Joyce. “He works hard both on and off job, and the opportunities he has been afforded by host UGL Limited have enabled him to achieve such good results.”

“Doing my apprenticeship through etco* has been a good choice,” says Cody, “I have benefited from the support of my host and from my etco* coordinator and they have kept me focused. Mum wanted me to go to university but I think she is very happy with my choice now. I am proud to be the etco*
Apprentice of the Year.”

The nominated Apprentices receive a $50.00 petrol voucher, all finalists receive $500.00 cash from etco* and prizes from sponsors, and the winner receives the John Fisher Memorial Trophy.

etco* thanks Blackwoods Paykels, TransNet and Safebrands for their support of the awards.
