etco* apprentice James Dodd has been named as achieving the top score nationally for the EWRB Theory exam in November 2011.

James, who is from Johnsonville, Wellington achieved an outstanding mark of 97% and this will go towards the successful completion of his Electrical Apprenticeship in the next few months. He is also planning to undertake further studies towards advancing his electrical career.

Congratulations to James from all at etco* on this great accomplishment.

The etco* Apprentices did us proud again at the ECANZ Challenge Finals that took place from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th July 2011. The Challenge Finals are the culmination of hard work put in by judges, local branches, sponsors and ECANZ over the past few months in finding outstanding apprentices from the nationwide preliminary rounds.

etco* Apprentice of the Year 2010 Finalists

Cody John is the etco* Apprentice of the Year for 2010. He received his accolade at the awards night held at the Martynsfield training facility in Ramarama on 23 February 2011.

Nine excellent Apprentices were nominated for the prestigious award by their respective Apprenticeship Coordinators. Nominations were considered based on Off–Job performance including marks gained in assignments and assessments, and On-Job performance taken from Host Company Performance Reviews plus results of EWRB Theory and Regulations examinations.

The local WEACT (Waikato Electrical Apprenticeship Charitable Trust) Awards were held on Tuesday 9th November 2010 in the Genesis Lounge at Waikato Stadium.  This event recognizes the excellence of Waikato apprentice electricians at all levels in study and in the workplace for the year.

2010 marks the 60th anniversary of WorldSkills International.

etco* apprentices Daniel Berry and Trent McKenzie competed in the recent Worldskills National Finals held in Christchurch. Daniel won a Gold Medal in the Industrial section of the competition and will now represent New Zealand at the World Championships in London in 2012. Trent also performed very well and picked up a Silver Medal in the Domestic/Commercial section.

Scott Virtue receives NZ Apprentice of the Year award

NZ Steel held their annual Apprentice of the Year awards ceremony on 25 February 2010.  Among this year’s award recipients were etco* apprentices Adrian Spillane (Pukekohe), who received the IMC award, and Scott Virtue (Waiuku), who received both the Electrical award and the overall NZ Steel Apprentice of the Year trophy, which was presented by Ian Ross, Vice President: Operations of BlueScope NZ.

etco* Apprenticeship Co-ordinator Gary Woodward joined other Industry training organisations and training providers during a large Careers Expo taking place in the Hauraki Coromandel region at the end of July. The Hauraki Herald reported that the road show was a great success with hundreds of secondary school students from Waihi, Paeroa, Hauraki Plains colleges, Whangamata area schools, Whitianga, Coromandel area schools and Thames High School attending.
