Thursday 14th March 2013 saw one of the most important nights in etco*s calendar, the Apprentice of the Year Awards, in full swing. Starting the evening, past etco* apprentice Daniel Berry spoke about his World Skills experience in London in 2011 and introduced current etco* apprentice Jonathan McFall who will be travelling to Germany for this year’s international competition in June. Daniel and etco* Martynsfield Manager, Luke Boustridge, will also be going to Germany as skill experts and judges.

Friday 9th November 2012 saw the annual Engineering Taranaki Consortium Apprenticeship awards in New Plymouth. It is a much anticipated night for many young apprentices across many different engineering trades and especially by the etco* area coordinator, Nigel Chantler, and the nine apprentices he put forward for an award.

Gateway Programme

Why not try our etco* Gateway Programme. It gives the students an insight into the benefits and advantages of joining the Electrical Industry. It will allow them to experience the practical side of electrical work in a Tyron Cowleysafe and secure environment.

Once again etco* apprentices excelled in both categories of the ECANZ Challenge Finals held over the weekend in Tauranga.

In the Industrial category two of the finalists were etco* apprentices:

  •  Winner - Rowan Cann from Auckland
  •  3rd Place - Jonathan McFall from Auckland.

In the Domestic/Commercial category, etco* apprentice Vaughan Marshall of Invercargill took second place.

etco* apprentices also featured strongly in the deep south with Vaughan Marshall winning the Domestic / Commercial competition scoring 95 out of 100. Vaughan also received a cheque and a tool bag for his efforts. Vaughan will attend the national finals in Tauranga as well.

etco* apprentices Justin Kubala and Richard Graham, although out-scored by Vaughan, scored well enough to be selected for the National Finals as well.

Auckland-based etco* apprentices featured strongly in the regional preliminary competition of the ECANZ Challenge 2012. Nicholas Greig was the winner in the Commercial/Domestic category and Rowan Cann was the winner in the Industrial category. The results were announced at an Industry Breakfast Function at Ellerslie Events Centre and in recognition of their efforts both apprentices were presented with a cheque for $200 and a tool bag by ECANZ Auckland President Dave Burt.

The etco* Apprentice of the Year awards were held recently at Martynsfield, etco*s south Auckland training centre.  Now in its 20th year, the prestigious award is open to all Last Year apprentices.  Apprentices are nominated by their Coordinators based on exceptional performance on and off the job.  This year’s finalists were:

etco* apprentice James Dodd has been named as achieving the top score nationally for the EWRB Theory exam in November 2011.

James, who is from Johnsonville, Wellington achieved an outstanding mark of 97% and this will go towards the successful completion of his Electrical Apprenticeship in the next few months. He is also planning to undertake further studies towards advancing his electrical career.
