It was announced at the end of 2009 that ETCO Apprentice Nick Hawes gained the Young Learner/Apprentice of the Year award for the Buller district.

The Buller District Council has adopted this award scheme in celebration of young people aged under 25 years who are in appropriate education, training, work or other activities that contribute to their long-term economic independence and well being.

Nick's award acknowledged his commitment to his apprenticeship, having worked diligently throughout and in doing so, achieving results at a high level.

Well done to Nick in attaining this outstanding accomplishment.
